Rev. Sonja L. Ayers is a native Sussex Countian, born and raised in Lewes, Delaware.

Rev. Ayers is a State of Delaware retiree after 27 and a half years of service in the Cape Henlopen School District.  Rev. Ayers is a graduate of Wilmington University.

At the age of 26 she accepted her call to ministry at Burton Chapel AME Church, Milton, Delaware.  She was further guided and nurtured in the ministry under the leadership of Rev. Luther L. Walker, Jr until she was ordained an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church on April 21, 1990.

Rev. Ayers’s pastoral appointments in the Delaware Annual Conference include the congregations at Star Hill, Mt. Plymouth, Dickerson Chapel and Mt.  Zion Ellendale, where she presently serves. 

She is the mother of one son, four grandsons, and one great-grandson.
